About Behold the Stars
What is Behold the Stars all about?
Behold the Stars is a blog about keeping your head on straight, staying upbeat, following your heart, accomplishing your goals, and finding a way to have a great life now – because you have one; although you may not realize it. It’s a place where I, an information junkie, can share the great things I come across.
Where does the phrase “Behold the Stars” come from?
It is a reference to the final line of Dante’s Inferno,: “And we again beheld the stars.”
The Inferno begins with the famous lines, “In the middle of the journey of our life I came to myself within a dark wood where the straight way was lost.” It goes downhill (no pun intended) from there as Dante finds himself in Hell. There people face all the usual Hell stuff: stung by wasps, trapped in putrid soil while being torn apart constantly by Cerberus’s three sets of bloody teeth, wallowing in a boiling river of blood, burning sands, rains of fire – well, you know. Anyway, Dante survives that and manages to find his way out. The closing line of Inferno is this: “And we again beheld the stars.”
Some of us have gone through a journey through our own personal Hells. I am one. Mine was about six years long, and the worst part about three. Unlike many, I was allowed to simply walk out seemingly unscathed. That final line reminds me of what I have been through and how lucky I feel to be back. It also reminds me how great my life is, how lucky I am, that I must remember those things each day, and that I should share what I’ve learned both in Hell and out. Thus the site.
Thanks for visiting.
Ah, Being trapped in Putrid Soil - nothing worse!
Really like the idea of your blog keep it up.
I have read through some of your posts, and it seems you are perhaps a kindred spirit. Thanks for sharing, and if I may be so bold, please allow me to add you to my blogroll. And by all means, if you’ve the time, please read through some of my own posts. I think you’ll see the same affinity that I have seen…though I daresay you’re a better writer than I.
Anyway, thanks for sharing!
I stumbled upon this blog… this line is actually the words that kept me going through my hell.
amazing.
It sounds like you’ve come through. It’s amazing how a short series of words can often open the doors to many layers of meaning for us. Often we cling to those phrases like a life preservers. I often will take note cards with quotations on them when I go for a walk. Good stuff.
Thanks for the comment.
